Qualitas Technologies in partnership with ABB Robotics have developed an indigenous weld bead detection system. Powered by a customized light and a 5MP camera from Basler, this system works at an amazingly fast cycle time of less than 1 second for processing. The robot picks up the wheel and presents it to a camera which is fitted with a fish eye lens. The weld seam is detected and the angular value is passed back to the robot using Qualicheck’s TCP/IP communication stack. The robot then rotates the wheel to the appropriate orientation for the valve punch operation.
