Reference approach

Capture the marking region with lighting suited to the finish. Locate the text, compensate for presentation where practical and validate the decoded string against the expected format.
What a pilot should establish
- Test pipe diameters, rotated markings, worn paint and surface reflections.
- Agree the pass, fail and uncertain outcomes before testing. Record incorrect accepts and incorrect rejects separately using an independent sample set.
A single view may not expose the entire marking; define rotation or multi-view capture where needed.
Outputs and line integration
Define the result required by the next process step, the time available to return it and the action for an uncertain result. Where records are needed, keep the image and decision tied to the inspected item or handling event.
Technical reference
Share pipe diameters, marking samples and identifier formats. We can define the imaging approach, integration points and a sample-based validation plan.
