Gear Teeth Counting and Classification

Gears with similar appearance can differ in tooth count. Glare, bore position and partial edges can confuse a simple counter.

Gear Teeth Counting and Classification

Reference approach

Gear Teeth Counting and Classification application illustration
Application illustration from existing Qualitas collateral; not evidence of a named customer deployment.

Locate the gear centre, isolate the outer tooth pattern and count the visible teeth. Compare the count and permitted geometry with the selected gear recipe.

What a pilot should establish

  • Test eccentric placement, tooth damage and similar variants with different expected counts.
  • Agree the pass, fail and uncertain outcomes before testing. Record incorrect accepts and incorrect rejects separately using an independent sample set.

Counting visible teeth does not certify tooth-profile geometry or gear performance.

Outputs and line integration

Define the result required by the next process step, the time available to return it and the action for an uncertain result. Where records are needed, keep the image and decision tied to the inspected item or handling event.

Share gear drawings, tooth counts and presentation method. We can define the imaging approach, integration points and a sample-based validation plan.
