High-Speed Pharmaceutical Code Reading

Code reading on a packaging line must handle motion, variable print quality and the time available to return a result.

Reference approach

Application illustration from existing Qualitas collateral; not evidence of a named customer deployment.

Trigger image capture at the relevant packaging position, decode the required symbol and compare its content with the expected record. Track each result to its package.

What a pilot should establish

  • Test motion blur, low contrast, partial codes, consecutive no-reads and the actual product pitch.
  • Agree the pass, fail and uncertain outcomes before testing. Record incorrect accepts and incorrect rejects separately using an independent sample set.

Reading a code is different from checking print quality or performing serialization aggregation. Specify each task separately.

Outputs and line integration

Define the result required by the next process step, the time available to return it and the action for an uncertain result. Where records are needed, keep the image and decision tied to the inspected item or handling event.

Share code samples, line speed, product spacing and expected data. We can define the imaging approach, integration points and a sample-based validation plan.
