CLIENT/INDUSTRY BACKGROUND

Our client is an American developer, manufacturer, and supplier of products for automotive, commercial, aerospace, marine, rail, and off-road vehicles and power- generation applications. Piston rings maintain gas compression between the piston and the cylinder wall. They seal the cylinder so that combustion gas generated at the time of ignition does not leak into the opening between the piston and the cylinder.

PROBLEMS

  • Counting rings manually causing counting errors that lead to inventory mismanagement
  • Due to the large production volume and thickness of 0.29 – 0.33 mm of the piston rings, it becomes difficult to count the number of rings and avoid SKU mismatch
