This year I had the opportunity to attend the SPIE Photonics West trade show in San Francisco. Not only is San Francisco my favorite city, this was an opportunity to see the latest in the photonics world, so how could I let that pass :).
The trade show itself was for 3 days, but I could cover the grounds in a day.This was my first time here, and I was amazed at the number and diversity of companies that were exhibiting (there were over a 1,000 companies with booths present).
Overall – this is probably not a show that I would attend again as it was more for photonics product manufacturers – there were booths that offered rare metals used in optics to laser diode manufacturers. The general theme of the event was optics and lasers. 90% of participants had components of systems related to either lens or laser manufacturing.
What was interesting though was that everyone I spoke to however was very interested in the Indian market but they had either tried to penetrate and were finding it very difficult or weren’t sure of how to go about entering this region.
