Pizza topping inspection using Deep Learning

 In Blog, machine vision

Machine Vision and Deep Learning has come a long way in it’s application. Here at Qualitas, we’re always eager to explore different opportunities. When one came up with our favourite fast food chain, we decided to grab it.

Here’s a demonstration on how a simple setup can be used to image a baked pizza and inspect the quality of it’s toppings. The example demonstrates counting of pizza toppings, in this case, pepperoni. The slices of pepperoni are detected and the total count is displayed.

However, we’ve also experimented with other toppings like olives and mushrooms and have seen very good results. This goes to show that deep learning has matured a long way and can be used in everyday applications with good effect.
